Chris Haynes: Portland Trail Blazers defensive specialist Matisse Thybulle is opting into his $11.5 million player option for the 2025-26 season, league sources tell me.
Michael Scotto: JUST IN: Portland Trail Blazers swingman Matisse Thybulle will exercise his $11.55 million player option for the 2025-26 season, league sources told @hoopshype . Thybulle averaged 7.5 points on 47.7% shooting from the field and 43.8% from 3-point range in 15 games last season.
Billups receiving a contract extension increased Thybulle’s confidence in the future. “Chauncey getting his extension is really exciting and definitely makes me optimistic for running it back with these guys,” Thybulle said. While playing, Thybulle averaged a career-high 7.5 points with 1.6 steals per game. He also shot 47.4% from the field and a career-best 43.5% from three-point range.
But will Thybule, who holds a player-option for next season that will pay him $11.5 million, return? The answer appeared to be “yes” after the Blazers’ win Sunday over the Los Angeles Lakers. Thybulle talked about having told the coaching staff in the locker room after the game how much he looked forward to competing with a team so committed to playing defense. “I can’t wait to get a full season under our belts,” he said. “Because this whole year, especially as we forged our identity as being a defensive team, I was just chomping at the bit.”
