Bobby Marks: Mathews was on a 2 year contract This season was a partial and next year a team option. Indiana will take on a $297,355 cap hit. Wiseman was signed to a 10-Day hardship exception on 12/20. The 10-Day is terminated (no waiver process) early and Wiseman retains the full amount.

Indiana Pacers: We have signed center Micah Potter. In subsequent moves, we have waived guard Garrison Mathews and released center James Wiseman.

Rather than suit up against the Mavericks, he flew back to Indianapolis where his family met him to help him work through it. "As soon as it happened, my mom came down, my family came down," James Wiseman said. "I was able to grieve for a little bit. Get that out. You can't suppress that type of stuff. But as soon as I landed I got in the weight room and used all my anger and kind of worked out. Just trying to get all that out. I just kept working ever since then. I haven't stopped."

James Wiseman said he had spent the last three weeks in Irvine, Calif. working out and getting pickup opportunities to stay in shape. "He's been in California, working out," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's been finding pickup games out there. We worked him out early this morning. He looks great. He's not in NBA game shape by any stretch, no one can be, but for somebody in his situation, he's got the best head start you can probably have." It's not clear exactly how much opportunity Wiseman will have. Jay Huff and Isaiah Jackson still occupy the top two spots on the Pacers' depth chart a center and Bradley will be listed as active.

Indiana Pacers: We have signed center James Wiseman to a 10-day contract. In a subsequent move, we have released forward Gabe McGlothan from his 10-day contract.

Michael Scotto: The Indiana Pacers are waiving center James Wiseman, league sources told @hoopshype . The former No. 2 pick of the 2020 NBA Draft has averaged 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game over five seasons with the Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers.

Bobby Marks: Wiseman signed a two-year $5.7M contract this past July. $1M of his $2.7M salary this season was guaranteed.

The James Wiseman draft pick at second overall in 2020 was a monumental whiff. If they wanted it, there could've been a trade path to Anthony Edwards at the top spot. Franz Wagner and Trey Murphy III were available to them during the Kuminga and Moses Moody selections in 2021. But that's all revisionist history to the always diplomatic Curry. "That whole conversation gets old quick," Curry said of maximizing his window. "I get what everybody's saying and the idea of it. But you make decisions with the information you have in front of you. If the information changes, then your perspective might change. That's kind of how it is in the league in general. I say all that to say: I want to be competitive. Doesn't mean you're going to have a perfect situation where you're the proverbial favorite. But I like where we are at."
In all, seven NBA players went down with a ruptured Achilles this past year, the others being James Wiseman, Isaiah Jackson, Dejounte Murray and Dru Smith during the regular season. At this week’s summer league, a plethora of orthopedic companies have arrived to weigh in with opinions and training proposals designed to explain or prevent the injuries. “Feels like there must be a thousand of performance people here, I guess selling their wares,” said one NBA team executive. “But [the Achilles epidemic] is something. There’s no way it’s not something. We’re looking at how people are playing, what the jump-back moves mean, how fast the game is. “Everything [injury-wise] in basketball is below the waist, and when someone gets a sore calf, I think the number one thing you’ll see is people will not ... play. It doesn’t matter if they get cleared medically. They will say, ‘I’m not 100% so there’s no way I’m doing it.’ It was starting to happen over the last year, but I think with what’s gone on is that any player who doesn’t feel 100% in the calves, or in their calf, is not going to play. That would be my bet.”
