Steve Kerr got off social media entirely, and hasn't looked back since. The Warriors coach, who once was very active on platforms such as X, formerly known as Twitter, deleted social media years ago, and in an interview with 95.7 The Game's "Willard & Dibs" on Wednesday, shared his reason for doing so at the time.

"It was a concious decision about five years ago," Kerr said. "James Wiseman was getting beaten up on social media and I went to him and I said 'Hey, let's get off social media together.' So we did it, and I figured it would be, you know, a month or two and I would go back, because I did enjoy a lot of it in terms of the newsfeed on Twitter and just following people that I like to follow, and then I realized after a couple weeks how great it was, that I didn't actually miss it and that I could just do the navigation on my own and find stuff that I wanted to read but avoid a lot of the toxic stuff."

With his luck, it’s no wonder the Pacers let him go (he was on a 10-day hardship contract with four days left on it) while presents were still under the tree. “This whole process, honestly, it’s definitely been down a lot,” Wiseman told The Athletic Sunday, after finally, maybe, perhaps, doing something where timing was on his side. “I’m just keeping my head up and staying resilient, but it’s definitely been tough — I ain’t gonna lie. “Just being able to have resilience and be able to persevere through adversity is what matters.”

The Americans went 1-1 in the two-game window, including a 123-88 shellacking of Mexico in which Wiseman scored 8 points with three rebounds and two blocks in 15 minutes. He played 25 minutes Thursday against the Dominican Republic (the U.S. lost, which was a stunner) and finished with 11 points and three blocks. Generally, Wiseman moved well on defense and most of his blocks came on recoveries, with him chasing the roll man and then pinning his shot against the boards. The Americans routinely ran plays for him at the rim, but the passes weren’t always there, so it looked to the untrained eye like Wiseman had some trouble catching the ball in traffic. “I feel like this was a test to see where I was at,” Wiseman said. “The torn Achilles stuff is serious, and it’s more of a mental grind than anything, but just being able through that whole process and stay resilient and then like seeing like how I was moving… you usually don’t come back the same, so being able to move really well and be able to feel like myself this week was really important.”

Wiseman smiles when he speaks. He is engaging. Teammates and coaches like him wherever he goes. He says enough to let you know basically what he’s thinking without divulging too much. He said former Warriors teammate Jonathan Kuminga was “my guy,” but didn’t (as Kuminga would) have any grand statement to make about either of them getting the chance they were looking for with Golden State. “I feel like just me being persistent with the progress, it’s gonna pay off,” Wiseman said. “I feel like me not being more of a liability on defense is what’s gonna keep me in the league for sure.”

Bobby Marks: Mathews was on a 2 year contract This season was a partial and next year a team option. Indiana will take on a $297,355 cap hit. Wiseman was signed to a 10-Day hardship exception on 12/20. The 10-Day is terminated (no waiver process) early and Wiseman retains the full amount.

Indiana Pacers: We have signed center Micah Potter. In subsequent moves, we have waived guard Garrison Mathews and released center James Wiseman.

Rather than suit up against the Mavericks, he flew back to Indianapolis where his family met him to help him work through it. "As soon as it happened, my mom came down, my family came down," James Wiseman said. "I was able to grieve for a little bit. Get that out. You can't suppress that type of stuff. But as soon as I landed I got in the weight room and used all my anger and kind of worked out. Just trying to get all that out. I just kept working ever since then. I haven't stopped."

James Wiseman said he had spent the last three weeks in Irvine, Calif. working out and getting pickup opportunities to stay in shape. "He's been in California, working out," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "He's been finding pickup games out there. We worked him out early this morning. He looks great. He's not in NBA game shape by any stretch, no one can be, but for somebody in his situation, he's got the best head start you can probably have." It's not clear exactly how much opportunity Wiseman will have. Jay Huff and Isaiah Jackson still occupy the top two spots on the Pacers' depth chart a center and Bradley will be listed as active.

Indiana Pacers: We have signed center James Wiseman to a 10-day contract. In a subsequent move, we have released forward Gabe McGlothan from his 10-day contract.
