Michael Scotto: Breaking: The Houston Rockets intend to sign Jae'Sean Tate to a one-year, $3 million deal, league sources told @hoopshype. CAA representatives Austin Brown, Max Saidman, Shakira Wardally, and Aaron Mintz worked with Rockets officials to negotiate the deal.
As the Rockets brass continue to maneuver through offseason mode — conducting draft workouts, tying up loose ends with exit interviews and prepping for a pivotal summer — they’ll need to address several key potential free agents on the roster. Veterans Steven Adams, Jeff Green and Jae’Sean Tate will be unrestricted free agents as of June 30 — but of the trio, Adams is seen as the clear priority, team sources told The Athletic.

Danielle Lerner: Jae’Sean Tate, who is still listed as out tonight (right ankle impingement) and has yet to be available in the playoffs, is taking shots on the court for the first time I’ve seen this postseason.
Danielle Lerner: Rockets center Jock Landale (OUT, knee contusion) is doing some return to play conditioning on the court in San Francisco. He could be available later on in the series. Jae’Sean Tate (OUT, ankle impingement) isn’t as far along. No word on when he might be cleared to play.
When he was 8, his mother, Cori Key, was murdered by her boyfriend in Toledo, Ohio. Tate couldn’t comprehend the senseless tragedy. He was angry for years. Therapy and anger management helped him resolve his feelings. So did the support of his paternal grandfather, Dwight Stewart, and his father and stepmother, Jermaine and Jenice Tate, who took him in and raised him in nearby Pickerington. Devastation brought determination. Growing up in a house with three younger siblings, Tate, who is now the oldest of eight children, said he strived to be a role model for his brothers and sisters.
“I think anything in our childhood contributes to who we are today,” Tate said. “My stepmom and my father were very present. They made sure that we wanted for nothing. But as the oldest sibling, I did have to grow up a little bit faster with them working. That kind of is where I developed those good habits, that leadership, because they were looking up to me. And, you know, I still do it for them. Everything I do is to make my family proud.”
Tate has cultivated a reputation as an unselfish glue guy in the Rockets’ locker room, a player who doesn’t mind being overlooked if he can be a rock for his teammates. “I think it just goes back to how I was raised, honestly, just my support system,” Tate said. “They molded me into a great man, a great guy who comes in, does the right things, and, you know, makes sure he gets his work done every day, but still be hungry and humble. And I think Stone did a great job of bringing in guys that have that same approach.”

Brandon Rahbar: Unexpected injury report development that could affect the Western Conference playoffs: Jae’Sean Tate is the only Rockets player on the injury report. Of course who knows how many minutes the starters will play. Nuggets vs Rockets tomorrow has big seeding implications.
Adam Wexler: #Rockets injury/status report vs Lakers tonight: OUT: Dillon Brooks (rest) Tari Eason (left leg injury management) Alperen Sengun (personal reasons) Jabari Smith Jr. (groin) Jae'Sean Tate (ankle) Amen Thompson (rest) Fred VanVleet (ankle)
Danielle Lerner: Rockets injury report for Friday @ Lakers: Jae'Sean Tate (right ankle soreness) is OUT. Alperen Sengun (personal reasons), Jabari Smith Jr. (left groin soreness) and Fred VanVleet (right ankle soreness) are questionable. Lakers say LeBron James is probable, Maxi Kleber out.
David Hardisty: This might have been the Rockets best showing this season. Jalen Green (34 points) and Alperen Sengun (31) both showed up big. Amen was terrific on both ends of the floor. Amen and Jae'Sean Tate combined to go 5-6 from three (!) Really impressive win over an elite team in OKC.
