Marc Stein: The Mavericks have waived Dalano Banton, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Dennis Smith Jr. Their @TexasLegends affiliate holds the G League rights on Banton and Robinson-Earl and Dallas remains in talks with Milwaukee to acquire Smith's G League rights from the Wisconsin Herd.
Marc Stein: Dalano Banton had no shortage of overseas interest but held out for an NBA opportunity. Dallas' roster is realistically full but (as with Jeremiah Robinson-Earl) it gets Banton's G League rights. Dallas is also still working to obtain Dennis Smith Jr.'s G League rights from the Bucks.
Mavs PR: The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed guard/forward Dalano Banton. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. In a related move, Dallas has requested waivers on guard Matthew Cleveland.
According to Sotiris Vetakis, Olympiacos is considering Dalano Banton to complete the backcourt. The 25-year-old Canadian is coming off two years with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he averaged 10.9 points and 2.8 assists in 97 games.
After stints with Toronto, Boston and Portland, Dalano Banton continues to chase an NBA roster spot despite interest from teams abroad. Banton has auditioned recently for NBA teams such as Golden State and Indiana; I've been apprised that the Pacers passed.

The key will be putting all that increased flexibility to good use and avoiding that second tax apron again. Freeing up the MLE helps for this summer, but among the remaining free agents, it’s hard to see many needle-movers left. Multiple sources confirmed the Suns’ next step after buying out Beal will be targeting a guard who can play on or off the ball, defend multiple positions and align with the toughness, energy level and basketball IQ Phoenix wants. Those sources also confirmed that a reunion with Chris Paul is highly unlikely, while De’Anthony Melton — someone who fits that description to a tee — is likely to return to the Golden State Warriors. Malcolm Brogdon is another combo guard who’s been linked to multiple teams, but beyond that, the crop of free agency guards includes Gary Payton II, Russell Westbrook, Markelle Fultz, Dalano Banton, Cam Payne and Ben Simmons.
