Speaking on Sirius XM’s “Deals and Dunks” on Monday, NBA insider Marc Stein tabbed the Celtics as a team that could be in the running for the two-time MVP if the Bucks opt to move him after a disappointing 2025-26 season. “Because they’ve created this [cap] flexibility for themselves when it looked like it was gonna be really hard to do so — I feel like they’re gonna be able to make moves,” Stein said of the Celtics. “There will inevitably be people who bring back the, ‘Do they break up Tatum and [Jaylen] Brown’ — like, that storyline will probably come back. “There have been some rumblings at various points during the season that the Celtics could be a stealth Giannis team and a team that potentially interests Giannis. So let’s keep our eye on the Celtics. We know Brad Stevens is not afraid to make big moves and take big swings. So I think we have to be ready for just about anything with Boston.”

League sources say Rondo has been interviewed for the post after serving as a special assistant on Doc Rivers' Milwaukee staff. Rondo is said to have felt his first coaching itch while recovering from a torn ACL as a Celtic, prompting Brad Stevens to bring him into staff meetings.

When Derrick White was acquired in an Auerbachian heist by Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens from the Spurs in February 2022, he came across as uncommonly shy for an NBA player. He was just about the last Celtic you’d think someday would have his own podcast. Yet here he is now, four seasons later, an NBA champion, Olympic gold medalist, and quintessential Celtic — one with a remarkably high approval rating among the fan base. And not only does he have a podcast, but it’s as illuminating and entertaining as any of the other player pods. “He says, ‘I think I’ve come a long way,’ ” says Alex Welsh, White’s best friend and former college teammate, who co-hosts the podcast titled White Noise. “We did a crossover episode with Tommy Alter, who’s one of the co-hosts of Old Man and the Three, which he started with JJ Redick back in the day. He asked Derrick, ‘I’ve known you for a while, and I would have never really thought you’d have your own podcast.’ And Derrick’s like, ‘Man, [expletive], me either.’ ”

KeithSmithNBA: If Boston signs Dalano Banton today (they can sign him today or tomorrow), they'll finish about $11K under the luxury tax. At the trade deadline, Brad Stevens said that the front office group of Mike Zarren, Dave Lewin & Buddy Scott had timed and planned all the moves out to finish under the tax.
Chris Mannix: Sam Presti's not leaving Oklahoma City for Dallas. Brad Stevens is not leaving Boston for Dallas. Could Tim Connelly be in the mix? I think maybe. We'll see how his situation plays out in Minnesota. There's a lot of moving parts out there. I think Koby Altman is someone to keep your eye on in Cleveland. Something could potentially be in play there, but this is really ownership you know, coming out and saying, well, like wow, we've got this job. Let's go big game hunting. Let's go shoot for the stars there. But I think the two biggest names are not in play. Connelly, Altman maybe. I also wouldn't dismiss Jason Kidd as a candidate for this job. I mean, Jason Kidd is very well respected for what he's done in Dallas. And he's very well liked by ownership. And if he wasn't the head coach of this team doing a great job developing Cooper Flagg, he might be in consideration more strongly. But I think the only thing holding Jason Kidd back or or preventing him from being a real candidate for this job is the fact that Dallas wants to keep him on the bench and wants to keep some stability with Cooper Flagg in his second year in the NBA. But I would still keep my eye on that. I think that's something that Jason is, let's say he's interested in. I would say he's very interested in that job in Dallas.

The discourse around the Celtics tanking was particuarly wild for the 22-year-old to digest. “What is that? What does that mean purposely lose? Like, try not to win? Walsh said. ”There’s never going to be a situation where I feel like the Boston Celtics are not going to try to win — especially with Joe as the head coach.” “Nobody in our organization wants to lose. I don’t care what it’s for – from Brad [Stevens] all the way down to me, nobody ever wants to lose.”

“So, now put yourself in Joe Mazzulla’s shoes. Take me through the conversations you’d be having with Tatum today, all day leading up to it, and then during the game. What are you going to be saying to him, and what are you listening for him to say to you?” Michael Malone: “I’m telling him to relax and enjoy this. You’ve done all the hard work. I think the hardest part about this 10-month stretch that Tatum’s gone through is the mental—the dark days, the rehab, doubting yourself: ‘Can I get back?’ I’m sure the Celtics, Joe Mazzulla, and Brad Stevens have made sure they surrounded Tatum. They’ve loved him, and there was no pressure for him to come back. They wanted him to come back when he felt ready. So, if I’m Joe Mazzulla, I’m putting my arm around him. I’m telling him how much I love him, how much I believe in him, and how much I have his back. We’re not looking to see him go out there and get 25 points tonight. We want him to come along slowly, build his minutes up. There’ll be a minute restriction tonight.”

Bernie Lee: 1. The amount of alignment and respect from Brad Stevens to his coaches was unparalleled; and 2. If anyone asked Joe to do anything other than compete like the world was about to end, they would probably only get the chance to ask him once. Fast-forward 58 games, and not shocking to me, Joe was right. If I am lucky enough to do this another 20-plus years, I highly doubt I will ever see another midstream pivot with this amount of success, and most importantly, a group that was built through adversity versus giving in to it. And that, to me, is the principle that all of this has to be built on. Period. End of sentence.
Through all the success, Nate Oats is continually asked about his potential interest in one day jumping to the NBA. Wednesday brought another one of those questions. Oats admitted there are still a lot of boxes to check at Alabama before he moves on. His family is another factor Oats brings up in the equation, citing the tough travel schedule of the NBA and how it relates to raising his three daughters. “We would have to win an awful lot of games here for me to make that jump,” Oats said via SiriusXM Radio. “Probably the one who’s done it best most recently is Brad Stevens, and man, he went to a national championship at Butler.”
