With Maxey sidelined, that means more responsibility for Cam Payne who will take over the ball-handling duties with Maxey sidelined for the time being. "Just staying ready," Payne said at shootaround. "Be ready for whatever situation. Make sure I’m locked in on the game plan and do everything I need to be doing out there on the court. Make sure I get everybody involved and go play hard."

Payne is stepping in for a guy who averages 29.0 points and 6.7 assists. He doesn't have to be Maxey, but he's going to have to get the offense humming and into a rhythm when considering the amount of offense that's off the floor for Philadelphia. "Just keep playing fast," Payne emphasized. "The main thing really is to get stops. I feel like if we get stops, the offense will kinda handle itself. Gotta make sure we get stops on the defensive end."

In the moment of the Maxey injury, everybody stopped. It looked like the 26-year-old was in a ton of pain and wasn't able to use the hand after it happened. The initial diagnosis of it being just being a sprain is a good sign for everybody. "I was just hoping it wasn’t broke because I had instances where I just kinda freeze where I broke my finger before and I just kinda freeze and I just kinda shaky, kinda scared," Payne said. "So, I was just hoping he didn’t break it or nothing. So, I’m glad he didn’t break it."

Adam Aaronson: Asked Nick Nurse if he anticipates using Cam Payne tonight: “Yep, I do. Not saying I’m going to, but I’m anticipating it, yes.”

Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed Cameron Payne. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Payne joins the 76ers after spending part of the 2025-26 season in Belgrade, Serbia, with KK Partizan, where he averaged 11.6 points, 3.8 assists, 1.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 21.9 minutes in 15 games. Payne scored in double figures in nine of his 15 contests, including tallying season highs in points (24) and three-pointers (eight) against KK Split on Dec. 28, 2025.

Shams Charania: The 76ers are planning to sign Walker to the new two-year deal and veteran guard Cam Payne for the rest of the season in the coming days. Payne spent part of the 2023-24 season with the 76ers.

Yossi Gozlan: This assumes Jabari Walker and Cameron Payne sign their deals on Thursday when the Sixers play next. They’ll have enough room for an additional signing at the end of the season in case they need to make one.

Marc Stein: Partizan Belgrade officially announces Cam Payne’s departure for the NBA … and the $1.75 million buyout fee it will receive to release him. The Sixers, as we covered earlier, can only contribute a maximum of $875,000 to the buyout fee according to league rules.

Marc Stein: Officially adding Cam Payne to the roster is expected to take some time this week as Philadelphia secures Payne's FIBA Letter of Clearance. The most that the Sixers can contribute to Payne's buyout from Partizan, league sources say, is $875,000.

Marc Stein: Cam Payne is signing a rest-of-the-season deal to join the 76ers, league sources say. It has been reported in Europe that the veteran guard is securing a buyout from Partizan Belgrade in Serbia to come back to the NBA.

Adam Aaronson: No team option for 2026-27 on the Cam Payne deal. Straight one-year deal. They should have enough breathing room below the luxury tax to not have to wait to sign their 15th standard contract, whether that ends up being a Jabari Walker deal or another external addition.

A big surprise from the Partizan Mozzart Beta camp! Cameron Payne leaves the club and returns to the USA. As Mozart Sport learns, Payne will play again in the NBA league, in the Philidelphia jersey. The Black and White will earn $1,750,000 in damages.

Following his arrival in Belgrade and setting his sights on the EuroLeague Final yesterday, Cameron Payne formally signed his contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season to complete his move to Partizan Mozzart Bet. The Belgrade outfit announced the addition of the 31-year-old combo guard on Tuesday morning.
