Dumars served as the chief strategy officer of the Sacramento Kings from 2019-22 and has been the NBA league office's executive vice president of basketball operations since 2022. Dumars ran the Pistons from 2000-14, winning the executive of the year award in 2003 and building the 2004 championship team. He made a series of moves that propelled the Pistons to seven straight seasons of 50 wins or more from 2001-02 to 2007-08 -- signing Chauncey Billups, trading for Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and Rip Hamilton, and drafting Tayshaun Prince.

Rasheed Wallace on Joel Embiid: We about to run this dude out of Philly

Rasheed Wallace: I'm so pissed with the Sixers this year and then here's the thing i like I said I can't even put it on the organization or the coaches, it's two dudes, it's two dudes that set it all for us. I don't know what the hell is going on! Why? Why? And I love Tyrese Maxey, I love the way Maxey called him out. How you going to be the captain, the star player of the team but then you don't come to meetings, you show up late to practice… and we know you not practicing, so damn you got to be there for damn rehab! Because now you messing this stuff up, because the trainer's dealing with you during practice when he should be keeping his eye on the other guys out there on the floor. You got to get to practice early dog or you won't have to stay after. (…) In my opinion I think the fans, we sick of it, man. We about to run this dude out of Philly, dog. I could see it, I could see it.

I always wondered what was your favourite “IT” moment from the 2004 title run? A moment that made you feel that it is all coming together and we might do something special. Joe Dumars: "The day of the trade for Rasheed Wallace. I felt we had a great shot to win." - Joe

Still, that 2003-04 Pistons team was one of the most motivational stories to ever grace the NBA hardwood, and recently, a key member of that team, forward Tayshaun Prince, revealed why he himself may have been a reason the team opted not to select Anthony, via The Knuckleheads Podcast. “I think how management looked at it was like they found their future small forward in me, let’s take a chance on Darko because remember (Mehmet) Okur, who we had, who was super talented, there was a chance we were going to lose him in free agency, which we did,” said Prince. “Then obviously (Rasheed Wallace), so it was like however they want to call it, we’ll take a chance on Darko.”

Rasheed Wallace: What makes you go after the guys you go after. Chris Luchey: It's always size for your position, an NBA skill set or freak athlete. Those are the guys that I was taught when I was working as a scout where guys would go to a different level. Dirk Nowitzki as a forward, yourself Sheed, being able to stretch the floor even in the early days. Magic Johnson has a huge point guard size for your position. Then you got all your incredible athletes, all your freaky athletes have all been successful for the most part. That's what you're looking for me. Personally I'm always looking for character because the NBA man is crazy especially from an agent standpoint. It's a very, very, very tough business because as you guys know as players you can change agents at any time.

Rasheed Wallace on Joel Embiid playing Olympics: 'Sit your ass down'

Rasheed Wallace: What the Sixers should have done is sit his ass down, go and get that rest. ‘This is the Olympics…’ No, sit down dog. Like you just got all this bread bro. No disrespect to the Olympics and Olympic Games, all that, but hey man, to me in this world, hey this NBA title is more important than you know getting that gold medal. Yo, go ahead and rest up. If I were the Sixers, oh man I definitely would have protested that with him. You are our main catalyst. I could see it if you were our backup center, or if you were a backup guard, or even a starting guard where we got let's say bringing a Tyrese Maxey off the bench or something like that. Oh yeah go ahead, but we ain't got nobody to back you up, bro. You are the team, you are it. When people think of the Philadelphia 76ers we think of Joel Embiid. Well, we think of Allen Iverson first, but then Joel Embiid. Man no, sit down. He doesn't look healthy.
