Anthony Chiang: Micky Arison reacts to HOF honor in press release issued by the Heat: “I am deeply honored to be joining Heat greats Alonzo Mourning, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Shaquille O’Neal, Ray Allen, Tim Hardaway, Gary Payton and of course my dear friend Pat Riley in the Basketball Hall of Fame. When my father Ted Arison brought the Heat to Miami almost 40 years ago, he did not do so for accolades. He did it because he thought it was best for Miami. Madeleine, Nick, Kelly and I have been the proud stewards of that vision and are so proud of what the Heat mean both in our community and to fans around the world. For some, this is an individual honor. But for me, this speaks to what our entire Heat family – players, coaches, staff and fans – have built together. “I look forward to enshrinement weekend in September, as well as future enshrinement weekends where more members of our Heat family will enter the Basketball Hall of Fame.”

Heat intensify trade talks involving Jimmy Butler

Heat intensify trade talks involving Jimmy Butler

Brian Windhorst: “Since Jimmy had his meeting with Micky Arison on Thursday there is no doubt an uptick in discussions around Jimmy Butler. The Heat shifted into a new gear after that meeting. I even had a team on Friday call me and say ‘Hey, this team is trying to dump some salary’ and they go ‘Hey, we were just talking with a couple of teams who were trying to dump a salary’ and they all of a sudden like had to like end our phone calls to go do something bigger they said ‘What's going on?’ and I go ‘Well, I don't know’, but I speculate that it has to do with Butler and not just a direct Butler trade but three and four team trades. The point is I do think the Heat are actually trying.”

Butler with Heat owner Micky Arison and chief executive officer Nick Arison on Thursday to discuss the path forward, league sources told the Miami Herald. The bottom line, though, is Butler’s thinking hasn’t changed. He still wants the Heat to trade him and the Heat will still look to find a deal to trade him, according to league sources, but there has been little progress in trade talks so far.
