Last Friday, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall …

Last Friday, Washington Wizards point guard John Wall surprised a center for homeless children in the Southeast D.C. not only with an appearance but with a $400,000 donation. The recipient, Bright Beginnings, Inc., announced the contribution on its Facebook page. On Tuesday, after completing the Wizards’ first practice of the season at Towson University’s SECU Arena, Wall was asked what motivated him to give the substantial gift. “It was just an opportunity. I’ve been knowing about Bright Beginnings since my second or third year in the league and I’ve just been talking to them and doing certain things,” Wall said. “I think it’s just devastating. You already see homeless people out on the streets, that’s tough to see, but you always wonder how they got there, what happened. But then you see the little kids. I never want to see my child, when I have one, on the side of the street not having anywhere to sleep, not having a place to get an education and things like that.

Per team policy, terms of the deals were not released. Wizards training camp, presented by Draft Ops, begins on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at SECU Arena on the campus of Towson University. The team will hold their first three practice sessions (Sept. 29-Oct. 1) in Baltimore before returning to Verizon Center for the remainder of camp.

In need of some big bodies, the Wizards have signed a couple centers, Josh Harrellson and Jaleel Roberts, to non-guaranteed contracts with invitations to training camp, which is slated to begin at Towson University on Sept. 29. Despite the lack of centers, both players are long shots to make the Wizards roster because it is already at the 15-man limit and the team plans to utilize more small-ball lineups this season.

After meeting Pops, former DePaul coach Pat Kennedy wasn't surprised why Quentin was "so grounded." Why Quentin's idea of entertaining a Blue Demon recruit was to go bowling instead of night-clubbing. Kennedy remembers Quentin's father refusing to let the McDonald's all-American leave the house until his chores were done. "Quentin was on an AAU Nike team. One day the AAU van was there to pick him up, but his father said he couldn't play because he didn't wash the dishes," said Kennedy, now coach at Towson University. "His father's the greatest."

She testified Neal and another La Salle player raped her. She vomited again before passing out, she told the courtroom. The defense presented another version. After two days of jury deliberations, Neal and his teammate were acquitted. But to La Salle, this was a Kobe-like mess. Guilty or not guilty, the details were dirty. In the 17 months it took for the case to come to trial, the men’s coach, the women’s coach and both their staffs had lost their jobs. Neal had left school as well. He took out a student loan and enrolled at Towson University, near where he grew up in the Baltimore area. But life as a walk-on also came with obstacles. Neal’s case went before a special administrative committee.
