Legislation underpinning a plan to relocate the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals across the Potomac River to northern Virginia easily cleared an early hurdle in the state legislature Friday. Lawmakers on the Virginia House Appropriations Committee voted 17-3 to advance the measure, a top priority of Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin, to the floor of the House of Delegates.
Potomac's newest celebrity resident and neighbor is media mogul and former AOL executive Ted Leonsis, owner of Washington sports teams the NBA's Washington Wizards, NHL's Washington Capitals and WNBA's Washington Mystics. Leonsis and his family have moved into Potomac's famed Marwood Estate, following a swap/sale of luxury homes earlier this year with Chris Rogers, a telecommunications executive best known for founding Nextel. An official with Leonsis' Monumental Sports and Entertainment confirmed that he is now living in the Potomac house.
Potomac residents will soon welcome a new neighbor — Ted Leonsis, the owner of NBA's Washington Wizards and NHL's Washington Capitals. Leonsis confirmed on his blog on Monday that he will be moving into Marwood Estate in Potomac after he sold his home in Vero Beach, Fla., last year and recently sold his residence in McLean, Va. Leonsis said in his blog he will be moving to Potomac in the first quarter of 2011. Marwood Mansion sold for $4.9 million in 2005; however, the property is now valued at about $8 million following a recent gut and renovation of the estate by Barnes Vanze Architects Inc. and Gibson Builders, according to an article on the Washington Post.
