Lorenzo Brown, recently announced as the new point guard for Olimpia Milano, has withdrawn from EuroBasket 2025 due to “personal reasons,” as reported by AS and confirmed by realolimpiamilano.com. The decision comes as a surprise, given Brown’s pivotal role in Spain’s 2022 gold medal run and his inclusion in Sergio Scariolo’s preliminary squad.
Osman, 29, joined Kostas Antetokounmpo, Lorenzo Brown, Jerian Grant, Marius Grigonis, Juancho Hernangomez, Panagiotis Kalaitzakis, Mathias Lessort, Konstantinos Mitoglou, Dimitris Moraitis, Kendrick Nunn, Ioannis Papapetrou, Kostas Sloukas, and Omer Yurtseven on the team coached by Ataman. “That is why I am here,” he replied about looking to help the Greens retain the EuroLeague championship, “We have a great team. They did an amazing job last year. But this year, I believe the league is even harder. A lot of great teams with a lot of great transfers. But, obviously, we are the best. We will go for the back-to-back.”
Panathinaikos emerged victorious in both competitions last year. both winning the Greek League and especially coming back to European success by lifting their seventh EuroLeague title. However, Ergin Ataman’s team didn’t want to stop there and even strengthened its roster by adding Lorenzo Brown to an already stacked backcourt and Omer Yurtseven to form an elite frontcourt. Joining Mathias Lessort and Kostas Antetokounmpo, the Turkish center now signed the contract with PAO.
When asked by BasketNews' Donatas Urbonas if this might be his last game with Spain as the Olympic cycle concludes, the 33-year-old Brown was straightforward. "No way, no way, man. I want to get back to the Olympics and give it another shot at it," said Brown, who contributed 4 points and 4 assists in the game against Canada.

For many, this Spanish national team gold medal run was surprising. But Lorenzo Brown had it on his target the first time he committed to Sergio Scariolo's team. "Yes, that was my first objective right there. And we did it. I faced a lot of criticism for who knows what. But I feel like it's a language barrier or country... I don't know what was going on, but at the end of the day, we speak the same language out there on the court. It doesn't matter what color you're or where you're from, we're all brothers and humans. That speaks for itself right there, winning this gold medal."
Lorenzo Brown scored a team-high 29 points and dished out six assists as Spain beat host Germany 96 – 91 to advance to the 2022 EuroBasket Final. “La Roja,” that will face France for the gold, has secured a medal for the seventh straight EuroBasket tournament and 10th overall in 11 competitions since 1997.
