Shreveport and Pensacola, Fla., were identified as the two finalists for the Pelicans' G League team, but Shreveport's potential addition of a new arena would have likely put it in prime position to land the team. Pensacola would reportedly utilize the 10,000-seat Bay Center for G League games.

Shreveport and Pensacola, Florida, are the two finalists as home for the Pelicans new NBA G League team, according to a release from Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler. The G League is the old NBA Development League or D-League. The Pelicans organization hasn't made any announcements about its finalists for the team that is slated to begin playing in the 2018-19 season. The other three cities that were in the running were Baton Rouge, Jackson (Mississippi) and Mobile (Alabama).
The Pelicans have long been rumored to be the next stop for former Piston’s executive Joe Dumars, who is a Shreveport, Louisiana native and has close ties to the ownership and leadership of the Pelicans and Saints organization. League sources said recently that Dumars has been active in the NBA front office circles, scouting players and reconnecting to the process.
"My life is a lot slower," said the 36-year-old. "The main thing is trying to find different things to do to stay busy. I started a small trucking company called SS Transports. We transport salt water, landfill and woodchips, and stuff like that. It's not a day-to-day thing for me so I still have a lot of free time. I've got my little four-year-old girl here and that's kept me grounded." Swift resides in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana, having moved back there after a short stay in Miami where the Grizzlies are set to face the Heat Sunday evening in American Airlines Arena.

Stromile Swift’s descent from former LSU star and NBA lottery pick hit a new on Friday when he plead guilty to charges of stalking a Shreveport woman last year. Swift, now 32, was arrested in May 2011 after Chaquinta Pouncy called local police to report that Swift was following her vehicle. Pouncy said that she and Swift had been arguing beforehand.
Former Pistons coach Scotty Robertson died Thursday after a battle with cancer, according to the Shreveport (La.) Times. Robertson spent much of his coaching career in Louisiana — including 12 years in high school, a decade with Louisiana Tech and a brief stint with the NBA's New Orleans Jazz.
Former NBA player Stromile Swift was arrested Thursday for stalking a Shreveport woman, his second arrest in less than six months, according to police. Just before 10 p.m., police received a call from an adult female, Chaquinita Pouncy, who reported that Swift was following her vehicle. She said the two had been arguing prior to the incident, police said.
Stromile Swift -- the #2 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft -- was arrested in Shreveport, LA earlier this month after arriving to a woman's home with a gun in his pocket ... only to find Shreveport PD waiting for him.
