Fertitta's bid is expected to include Houston Comets' branding, a source told Chron, a delightful detail for many in the Bayou City. The Comets dominated the early years of the WNBA, as Houston captured the league's first four titles from 1997-01. Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Tina Thompson and Co. led the WNBA with more than 11,000 fans per game at the Compaq Center in those seasons, though subsequent years brought significant dips in attendance. Former Rockets owner Leslie Alexander sold the Comets to furniture salesman Hilton Koch in 2007, who looked to sell the team a year later.

The Utah Jazz won’t be participating in the playoffs this year, so the NBA asked Gordon Hayward to do it a favor. Because the Jazz shooting guard had nothing better to do at the end of the month, Hayward happily accepted the invitation to help run a clinic for youth basketball players in the Philippines. Hayward and former WNBA great Tina Thompson will coach young hopefuls trying to become Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA All-Stars during the Philippines 2014 national training camp.
