Appearing on the Buckets Don't Stop podcast, the veteran guard claimed he sees himself as a perfect fit and a crucial piece for the Houston Rockets. "I'd love to go to Rockets," Dinwiddie said. "I'd love to go to Rockets. One of my best NBA friends, Dorian Finney-Smith, is on the Rockets. And I think, the [Fred] VanVleet injury really hurt them. I think they have all the makings of having that championship-type team. "They have young talent in [Jabari] Smith Jr. and [Amen] Thompson. They got a great post up threat and creator in [Alperen] Sengun. You got an all-time, all-world scorer in [Kevin Durant]. And I think [I'm] a guard that can go in there, catch and shoot off of Sengun and KD, set the table in terms of just taking some of the thought process of, setting the table in terms of KD and Sengun just letting them score.

Spencer Dinwiddie: Like there's always so much about, like, his work ethic, right? Like how it’s bad or it's this or it's that. It's funny because, to me, it was just different. And what I mean by that is—Luka didn’t love drills, right? But he would grab the G-League players, the practice players, the whatever, and he’d play three-on-three, five-on-five for an hour, two hours—whatever—after practice. And that was his reps. Like, he was using them as cones. “So I could never sit there and say he doesn’t work hard. I’m like—to me, he just— Instead of doing cone drills and catch-and-shoot shots—was using these live human beings as cones and getting—working on all his stuff and—and doing it at an extremely high level. And so, to me, I was like—the work is there, and it’s proven because he’s able to drop 35 every night. Like nobody—nobody rolls out of bed—completely just rolls out of bed—and drops 35 every night.

Spencer Dinwiddie: “As you said, like, I've been around the stars of stars, right? So, I guess I gotta just kind of give you a quick rundown of like all of them. We'll start with—probably—we'll start with LeBron. Probably easy to start with, right? Like he's the only person that like every single time beats me to the gym, right? Like he's there whether it's lifting, treatment, whatever he's doing, he's just there.”

Bayern Munich’s basketball team will begin the new year with a roster change, as Spencer Dinwiddie will no longer be part of the squad. The 32-year-old guard and the club have mutually agreed to end his contract, which had been set to run through the remainder of the season, due to personal circumstances.

With approval from the club’s sporting leadership, Dinwiddie returned to the United States shortly before Christmas following a serious illness within his family.

Spencer Dinwiddie: Luka Doncic is the best offensive player in the world. I've played against him so much. We had battles in practice. I think he has a counter to everything and can get his shot off when he wants. And so, sometimes it just comes down to whether he's hot that day or not.

Spencer Dinwiddie on who’s the best current Euroleague player: Everybody told me Kendrick Nunn. That's the guy. I mean obviously we haven't we haven't played him yet since I've been here. I played him before obviously in the NBA but everybody told me Kendrick Nunn is the guy here for sure.

Spencer Dinwiddie also made a comparison between the NBA and EuroLeague. “The intensity is high, the fan bases are really tribal. It’s great — they bring a lot of energy to the game. It’s just a different style of dance. People think it’s a lesser league; I wouldn’t say that. It’s a completely different style. It’s like I told them — it’s like salsa and ballet. Some people can dance both ways, some can only dance salsa or only ballet. You can be great at one and not great at the other. It’s just a different style.”

It appears Spencer Dinwiddie has settled in quickly and confidently after choosing Bayern Munich over multiple options. “I talked a lot with my agents to look at all the opportunities available, whether it was in the NBA, in China, or in the EuroLeague. But the familiarity I had with Gordie [Herbert], the fact that it’s a beautiful city with great facilities, that was appealing,” Dinwiddie said to BasketEurope.

The veteran guard also pointed to a broader trend of NBA players recognizing the level of competition in Europe. “Everybody is realizing that there is another very high-level basketball league in the world. The EuroLeague is very competitive. We have the chance to keep chasing our dreams and to enjoy playing the game, no matter where you are in your career. I think that’s why a lot of players move from the NBA to the EuroLeague.”

Despite VanVleet's absence, Houston still ranks first in the league in offensive efficiency. The Rockets do, however, find themselves in the bottom 10 in assist to turnover ratio. As for what a possible return for Morant could look like, one team executive ESPN talked to pointed to the 2023 trade that sent Kyrie Irving from the Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. In that deal, the Nets received Spencer Dinwiddie, Finney-Smith, a 2029 unprotected first-round pick and two second-rounders.

Spencer Dinwiddie inked a contract with FC Bayern Munich for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. The EuroLeague outfit announced his signing on Thursday. The 32-year-old winger will reunite with Gordon Herbert, the current head coach of the German club and a consultant at the Brooklyn Nets, during the 2019-20 season. Using his established relationship with the former Net, he 66-year-old tactician sealed the deal to bring in Dinwiddie.

Spencer Dinwiddie is in advanced talks to continue his career in Europe, with Bayern Munich emerging as a serious contender in the race for the 11-year NBA veteran, sources tell BasketNews. While other major EuroLeague teams – including Olympiacos, as mentioned in the Greek media reports – have been linked to the player, Bayern has recently emerged as a strong contender in the pursuit of Dinwiddie, per sources.

Marc Stein: There is strong EuroLeague interest in Spencer Dinwiddie but sources tell the @TheSteinLine that Anadolu Efes is not among the teams pursuing the veteran guard. Dinwiddie is a free agent after going to training camp with Charlotte. He and Jared Butler both have European suitors.
