Omari Sankofa II: Cade Cunningham (right wrist contusion) and Ausar Thompson (right heel contusion) are both probable tomorrow. Paul Reed (personal reasons) is questionable.

Omari Sankofa II: Update: Paul Reed (personal reasons) is out. Devin Booker is out for the Suns

Omari Sankofa II: Asked JB about the Stewart-Reed starting frontcourt: “It allows Stew to roam the paint … while P Reed is capable of defending the perimeter and dealing with bigger guys there.” Acknowledged it has some spacing issues to figure out, but he liked their defensive intensity.

The Detroit Pistons, on the other hand, are almost too deep (they may be in the market to make a consolidation trade for Giannis to fix that “problem”). There is a lot of orange and yellow all the way down the Pistons’ heatmap, to Paul Reed, who, as Max Moacanin recently pointed out, is sneakily one of the most efficient players in the entire league. That allows the Pistons to employ a soothingly symmetrical rotation pattern for their starters. Notice how J.B. Bickerstaff staggers his first and final rotations, subbing out Thompson first, then Harris, Robinson, Duren, and finally Cade Cunningham. The pattern repeats itself in reverse in the fourth quarter, as Cade checks back in first among the starters, followed in order by Robinson, Harris, Duren, and Thompson.

But the thing about offer sheets — the primary mechanism for RFAs to get paid what they think they’re worth — is that they’ve become increasingly rare in recent years. The chart below shows the number of offer sheets issued to RFAs by year, according to data from prosportstransactions.com Between 2000 and 2020 there were 81 offer sheets issued to RFAs — or about four per year. But since 2020, the league has seen only four offer sheets issued total. The last RFA to get an offer sheet was Paul Reed in 2023.

On Monday, June 30, the Pistons agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with Paul Reed, the Free Press has confirmed. According to a source who could not speak because the contract isn't official, the second year of the deal is non-guaranteed. It isn't yet clear if the team is signing Reed using their bi-annual exception, which allows for a two-year deal starting at up to $5.1 million, or through another cap method.

Shams Charania: Free agent C/F Paul Reed – aka BBall Paul – has agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal to return to the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. Reed played a versatile role for Pistons frontcourt, and the team and his agent Ron Shade of Octagon reached the new contract tonight.

Omari Sanfoka II: Can confirm Paul Reed has re-signed with the Pistons for two years, $11 million. Shams was first. A source tells me the second season is non-guaranteed. Their first move of free agency.
Cade Cunningham knows he’s walking into the unknown, but it’s way more of a waking-up-Christmas-morning anticipation than a sense of dread that washes over him and teammates who’ve never experienced the NBA playoffs as they count down the hours until Game 1 tips off Saturday in New York. “I’ve always picked my vets’ brains since my rookie year,” Cunningham said of leaning on Tobias Harris, Tim Hardaway Jr., Malik Beasley, Dennis Schroder and Paul Reed – who take a combined 240 games of playoff experience into the postseason with them – for an idea of what to expect. “There’s been conversations throughout my career, hearing stories about the craziest things that have happened. It’s all good. I think I’ve learned a lot from that, but experience is the greatest teacher. I’m excited to be out there.”

Pistons center Paul Reed, who was waived by Philadelphia in July, took a shot at his former team on social media Saturday night, posting, “They thought I was the problem,” Pompey adds. Asked to comment on Sunday, Nurse replied, “I don’t have a response. We certainly didn’t think Paul Reed was a problem.”

Sarah Todd: Paul Reed bumped into Jordan Clarkson and then the ram into each other again. (Double techs awarded). Then Ron Holland and Clarkson square up on each other and get ejected. JC throws his headband to some fans and double peaces on his way into the tunnel.

Michael Scotto: The Detroit Pistons signed Paul Reed to a one-year, fully guaranteed minimum deal, league sources told @hoopshype . Detroit reaches the salary floor with this move. Pistons now have $14 million in cap space to use ahead of the trade deadline, which gives them a ton of flexibility.
