A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Walter McCarty, a Harrison High School graduate who played in the NBA and later coached the University of Evansville. McCarty did not appear for his 8:45 a.m. Thursday hearing in the Vanderburgh Superior Court despite being issued a show cause order because he had also skipped an Aug. 20 hearing. The warrant directs any other police agency in the state to bring McCarty before the court. He may be arrested in plain sight and if arrested, he will be booked and held in jail in lieu of a $500 cash bond or until he is taken to court.

Stevens said he plans to fill the void created by assistant coach Walter McCarty’s departure internally. McCarty was named the University of Evansville’s head coach in March.
Celtics assistant coach Walter McCarty is scheduled to interview for the head coaching position at the University of Evansville on Wednesday, according to a college basketball source. The Purple Aces fired coach Marty Simmons last week. McCarty, an Evansville native, has already completed a telephone interview with Evansville decision-makers, the source said. The school has completed interviews with former Indiana University star and NBA player Calbert Cheaney, and Valparaiso assistant coach David Ragland. Both Cheaney and Ragland are Evansville natives, too.
Sloan's professional resume is quite impressive. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009, he is the longest tenured head coach with a single franchise in major professional sports, having served as the Utah Jazz head coach since 1988. A three-time All-American at the University of Evansville, he helped lead the Purple Aces to NCAA College Division National championships in 1964 and 1965. He was also a two-time NBA All-Star during his playing days with the Chicago Bulls. But, at home in McLeansboro, Sloan is just another guy. "Let's just say he's never forgotten where he came from," White said. "He's just as common as any other Hamilton County native."
