Chris Haynes: Former Portland Trail Blazers president Chris McGowan is named CEO of Ilitch Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers and Little Caesars pizza chains.
What have you learned about yourself, scrapping together paychecks? Guy: I think it’s kind of like working two jobs. It’s not as constant as basketball. Sometimes I won’t have a Cameo every single day. But I think being able to go to this place where it’s like, “All right, I got to get this done no matter what or I’m not eating tonight. There’s been some nights where I’m not eating dinner. The past two nights I’ve eaten Little Caesars, the whole pizza for $5, the Hot-N-Ready takeout deal. That’s just the best thing for my financial situation right now.
Detroit's Ilitch family said Monday that it has hired the basketball executive widely credited with stabilizing the NBA's Sacramento Kings' business operations to oversee their sports and entertainment holdings. Chris Granger is now group president, sports and entertainment for Ilitch Holdings Inc., which is the umbrella company that oversees the Little Caesars pizza chain, Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and the $2.1 billion District Detroit that includes Little Caesars Arena that opens in September.
Ilitch is founder and owner of Little Caesars Pizza. He also owns the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. He was in negotiations to purchase the Detroit Pistons, as well, before he backed out of talks. Rumors won’t go away that Gilbert is interested in buying the Indians. However, a well-placed source said the Tribe isn’t for sale.
He liberally changed the lyrics of his songs to reference local totems such as sports teams, Little Caesars pizza and Pine Knob, his usual summer stop, and even recalled an early career stop at the Raven Gallery in Southfield. Buffett also incorporated a couple of local guests into the show as well: guitar hero Earl Klugh for "Jamiaca Mistaica" and "Come Monday" and, more surprisingly, hoopster Shaine Battier -- the Birmingham-born, Detroit Country Day and University of Michigan grad who now plays for the Miami Heat -- to play congas on "Margaritaville," though not well enough for him to think about hanging up the sneakers.

Hungry Howie's is now the official pizza of the Detroit Pistons, officials announced today. Previously, Domino's Pizza was the dish of choice for the Pistons as well as the Palace of Auburn Hills and DTE Energy Music Theatre. Had Mike Ilitch bought the team instead of Tom Gores, fans would have been snacking on Little Caesars. Details of the agreement between Hungry Howie's and Palace Sports and Entertainment were not disclosed. “We are proud to add Hungry Howie’s as our official pizza. Hungry Howie’s is a Michigan-based company with locations throughout our area, so our guests are already familiar with the great quality of their products,” Dan Hauser, PS&E Executive Vice President, said in a news release.
Speculation that Beverly Hills private equity billionaire Tom Gores is working with Little Caesars pizza chain co-founder Mike Ilitch on a deal to jointly buy the Detroit Pistons is untrue, a source said today. Whether it's untrue because it's premature remains to be seen. "There are no active discussions right now," an aide to Gores said today.
