Beijing wants to use sports and international events to “boost overall consumption,” said Crystal Wang, an expert on Chinese sports with the consultancy Deloitte in Shanghai. “That is from the top.” According to state media, the Chinese leader Xi Jinping has a soft spot for basketball, having played pickup games while working as a local official in Hebei Province.
Tamika Tremaglio, managing principal of Deloitte’s Greater Washington practice, has been advising the NBPA behind the scenes for nearly a decade and has also worked extensively with the WNBA's union. She was one of two finalists for the post alongside Loop Capital Markets managing director and general counsel Adrienne Banks Pitts, according to league sources, and received the strong endorsement of Roberts, McCollum and longtime union executive Chrysa Chin before the vote was held on Sept. 22.

Deloitte executive and former Notre Dame football player Byron Spruell has been named the NBA’s president of league operations, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced in a news release Thursday morning. Spruell will oversee league operations, including basketball and referee operations staffs and “the processes regarding the management of rule changes, the evaluation and training of game officials, and the enforcement of conduct standards and discipline,” according to the NBA.
