The team posted a photo to social media of Wembanyama with seven of his teammates from his gym in nearby suburb Nanterre, France: Carter Bryant, De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Harrison Barnes, Jordan McLaughlin and free-agent signing Tobias Harris. The significant contingent, which comprises the majority of the Spurs’ projected playing rotation, is expected to spend around a week working out together at the home of Wembanyama’s former club Nanterre 92, of which he now owns a piece. Center Kelly Olynyk, who was with the Spurs last season but is currently a free agent, is also attending the workout.

“You hate to see it,” Holmgren laughingly says of Olynyk mentoring the 7-foot-5 Wembanyama. “(The Spurs are) a group of young guys that are really talented and you don’t want to see them getting any extra help. That’s me saying that jokingly.” Holmgren arrived to the Zags a decade after Olynyk, but says he got to pick his brain during a summer visit while he was at GU. “He was great when I was at Gonzaga,” Holmgren said of Olynyk. “He came up there before the season and talked to the group, gave us some inspiration, some words of teaching.” NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson is scheduled to deliver a commencement address at Stillman College on May 9. The Tuscaloosa institution made the announcement regarding Johnson on Friday.
Kelly Olynyk: We go up to the house. We let Harley in and like as we shut the gate, it was kind of like, damn, are we just gonna like leave her in the backyard? Jackie Olynyk: We got in the car and we maybe drove for 10 seconds and I just started [laughter] crying. Sweet Kelly just looked at me and didn't say anything and turned around… Jackie And literally in right in front of us in the middle of the street is Harley. She like scaled the fence, jumped it. It was unreal. Jackie: I just opened my door and she resumed her position, just came around, jumped right back on my lap. Kelly: I was starting to drive back to the hotel and meanwhile this whole day Jackie's been, you know, on social media. Jackie: And then I got a phone call and it was from the owner. She was like, "Oh my gosh, you have Harley? I have been looking for her for years. Like I lost her years ago." Kelly: And so we drive over there, knock on the door, and the owner opens the door. Jackie: Harley instantly lit up when she saw her. Kelly: And Harley jumps into her arms. It just melts you to see that connection. It was an amazing sight to see. Jackie: It was emotional and I felt like I was inside of a Christmas movie.
Jared Weiss: The Spurs’ De’Aaron Fox and Luke Kornet remain out tomorrow against the Lakers. Dylan Harper remains out with a calf strain. Kelly Olynyk, Lindy Waters and Jeremy Sochan will be evaluated after practice today and/or shootaround tomorrow for their potential season debut.
