Ernie Barrett, a member of the Boston Celtics in the mid-1950s and a fixture in Kansas State history, died on Friday morning at 93. "Mr. K-State," as he was adoringly referred to following 75 years of commitment to Kansas State, passed away in Manhattan, Kan., the university confirmed in a news release Friday.

It is too early to tell if Cartier Diarra will return to Kansas State for his final season of college basketball, but one thing appears certain about his future: He will declare for the NBA Draft as an early entrant and test the pro waters this spring. “Yeah, I would anticipate that,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said in a phone interview. “I think, like Xavier (Sneed) did, he will put his name in. You have got to go through the process. I talked to him the other day. Like a lot of kids, that is something he definitely wants to look at.”

Kellis Robinett: K-State junior Xavier Sneed has officially declared for the NBA Draft, according to a team spokesman. He likely will return to college as a senior, but he first wants to test the pro waters and experience workouts the same way Barry Brown did a year ago.

Xavier Sneed is currently projected as a second-round pick in next year’s NBA Draft, not this one, but he could enhance his profile this spring. Odds are good he will at least test the pro waters and declare early for the NBA Draft without hiring an agent, giving him the option to return to school. “I am sure he will try like Barry did last year and see if he can get any workouts,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said. “I am going to encourage it just to have that experience.”
