Marc Stad founded Dragoneer in 2012 and built the firm into one of the largest growth investment companies, which now manages over $35 billion in capital, according to Forbes. He also joined the original ownership group in the NHL's Seattle Kraken in 2018 as a minority shareholder, holding close relationships with owner Samantha Holloway and her father, the late David Bonderman. Lore and Rodriguez bought into the Timberwolves in 2021 at a $1.5 billion valuation, with an agreement to eventually purchase the team in full from previous owner Glen Taylor, who later tried to stop the transfer of the team. Lore and Rodriguez officially took full control in June 2025, and re-upped their commitment to keeping the franchise in Minnesota. However, the Target Center is the second-oldest building in the NBA (behind only Madison Square Garden), and ownership has been working with the city of Minneapolis on plans for a new arena.

Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett has agreed to reunite with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx in a new, all-encompassing role involving business, community and fan-engagement efforts and content development, sources told ESPN on Thursday. Garnett and the Timberwolves will also hold his much-awaited No. 21 jersey retirement ceremony in Minnesota over the next two seasons, sources said. Garnett had been distant from the Timberwolves' organization since his playing career ended in 2016 due to a fallout with ex-owner Glen Taylor, refusing to have his jersey retired, but built a rapport with new governors Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez and the sides found common ground on a reunion.

Indications from both parties are that there is a willingness to put the bitterness of their dispute behind them and move forward in an amicable manner. The battle is over, so there is no desire to extend it in front of the public. It is the end of an era in Minnesota. Taylor saved the Wolves from moving to New Orleans when he swooped in and bought them in 1994. He built a Lynx organization that has won four championships and been to the WNBA Finals seven times. As he prepares to depart, the Timberwolves might be in the best shape they have ever been in from a competitive standpoint.
One more thing to keep an eye on: they’re going to work to rekindle that relationship with Kevin Garnett. Garnett still hasn’t had his No. 21 “Big Ticket” jersey retired. He refused to do so with Glen Taylor as owner. I expect that to change, and I expect more conversations about a potential role for Garnett within the organization alongside A-Rod and Lore.
