Ron Harper is set to add another honor to his long list of them. The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday that Harper is part of the next class to be inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame. After becoming a star at Kiser High School, Harper was one of the best players in the history of Miami University basketball.
“The impact that Wayne Embry has made in his lifetime goes so far beyond Miami University and the game of basketball at all levels. It is impossible to put into words the true scope of his influence and the ground he paved for so many,” said Miami University Director of Athletics David Sayler. “To be able to honor him with a statue that will be a permanent tribute means so much to our basketball program, athletic department and university. I want to sincerely thank Randy Ayers and Jayne Whitehead for spearheading the efforts with the donors to make this project a reality.”
Miami University head men's basketball coach Jack Owens announced Friday that sophomore guard Nike Sibande will be putting his name into the 2019 NBA draft in order to get an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee.
The Cavaliers are expected to invite three non-roster players to training camp, which opens Friday. It appears former Miami University guard Kenny Hayes along with forwards Mychel Thompson (Pepperdine) and Willie Reed (Saint Louis University) will round out the Cavaliers training camp roster. Many clubs invite additional players to camps.
Wally Szczerbiak said he knew it was time to begin a “new chapter in my life,” a chapter that could bring him back to Miami University for an occasional basketball game. The former RedHawks great and veteran of 10 NBA seasons now works as an analyst for the CBS College Sports Network and said there is a chance he will cover a few Miami games this season. On Tuesday, the 33-year-old Szczerbiak was back at Millett Hall for a different reason.
